My Fascination With Social Media
In the last 10 years, Social Media has blown our lives up. Some may argue that this addition into our lives has caused a lot of chaos but on the flip side, some may say that our world is working in a way it never has before as a result of social media. Something that social media has provided to people all around the world if wanted, is a way to make MONEY. A profession that has been on the rise is in Social Media is social media management. While the responsibilities of this position are always changing, the job seems to be here to stay. Many probably wonder, what does being a social media manager look like? I can assure you that the position looks different for everyone however, I did have a year of experience in Social Media management and I would love to share some of my take-aways with you. I worked for a company called Hustle Media that started here in Nashville! They are a smaller social media management company that focuses on Entertainment, Golf, and Alcohol. They manage everything a client needs from their social media presence on all platforms to producing and capturing content, interacting with the brand’s audience, and using ads and people to target and reach those who might be interested in what the brand has to offer them. The biggest emphasis of my time at Hustle and my overall social media takeaway is that EVERYTHING is INTENTIONAL and NOTHING is COINCIDENTIAL. The ad that you see on your Instagram feed 20 minutes after looking at a website is SUPPOSED to be there. People who work in the social media industry have to be adaptive and learn skills quickly. Trends change so quickly in the industry that managers and employees need to know how to adapt to learn these new systems. This is ultimately what led to my demise. As soon as I mastered one platform or one skill, we were onto the next. I could not keep up.
Social Media is a powerful tool that is going to continue to get stronger and is going to continue to connect us. Those who don’t get on board are going to get left behind. Regardless of your career path, it will in some way or another be incorporated into your job.
As of right now, I am planning to go into real estate after graduation. Social Media has impacted the housing market and the way that agents are able to do their job. For example, Tik Tok has showcased many areas of the world that people are wanting to go travel to and ultimately live. Real estate companies are using Tik Tok and Instagram to do house tours and Facetime or Zoom has allowed agents to show houses to people who are looking to buy homes in another state. These are all positive factors of what social media has done to the industry but I can’t help but think about that older agent that maybe doesn’t know how to use Tik Tok, or didn’t have the tools at first to know how to show a house virtually. Here is something to think about… Car salesmen used to be very important. Going to a car lot, picking a car, and talking to the salesmen were a part of the car buying process. In the last few years, people can purchase cars from their phones. This has eliminated the need for the middle man, the salesman. If we take this same situation and apply it to the housing market, we could be seeing less of a need for agents. While I do not see this happening soon, it is a great possibility. Technology and social media have opened so many possibilities for many but have also taken away many for others as well. For the field of work that I would like to go into, I see social media being a positive thing if you know how to adapt to it and use it to your advantage. Some may view it in a different light! However, we must all be ready for the ride, or else, we’re going to be left behind!
